Bedsores

 #Bedsores 🔥

---->Definition:
Bedsores_also called pressure sores or pressure ulcer _ are injuries to skin and underlying tissue resulting from prolonged pressure on the skin.  Bedsores most often develop on skin that cover bony areas of the body such as
.Heels
.ankles
.hips
.tailbone or buttocks
.shoulder blades
.spine
.backs of arm
.legs where they rest against the chair

---->Causes :
Bedsores are caused by pressure against the skin that limit blood flow to the skin and nearby tissues, other factor related to limited mobility can make the skin vulnerable to damage and contribute to development of pressure sores.
The primary contributing factors are

1.  Sustained pressure _ when your skin and the underlying tissues are trapped between bone and surface shuch as wheelchair ♿ or bed,
The pressure maybe greater than the pressure of blood flowing in the tiny vessels that deliver oxygen and nutrients to tissues, without these essential nutrients, skin cells and tissues are damaged and may eventually die
2. Friction _ friction is the resistance to motion
It may occur when the skin is dragged across a surface, such as when you change position or acare providers moves you. The friction may be even greater if the skin is moist, friction may make fragile skin more vulnerable to injury

3. Shear _ occur when two surfaces move in the opposite direction, this motion may injure tissue and blood vessels making the site more vulnerable to damage from sustained pressure

---->Risk factors:
People are at risk of developing pressure sores if they have difficulty moving and unable to easily change position while seated or in bed
Immobility due to:
.general poor health or Weakness
.paralysis
.injury or illnesses that requires bed rest or wheelchair ♿
.recovery after surgery
.sedation
.coma

---->The methods of prevention from bedsores are:
1. Change position frequently, when you change position often, there will be less pressure on your skin, reducing risk of developing pressure ulcer
2. Keep skin clean and dry
3. Use pillows
4. Exercise

---->When would you see a doctor 😷?
If you notice early signs or symptoms of a pressure ulcer, change your position to relieve the pressure on the area. If you don't see any improvement in 24 to 48 hours,  contact your doctor
Seek immediate medical care if you show any singns of infection, shuch as fever,drainage or afoul odor from asore or increased heat and redness in the surrounding skin.
